Fritz Reiner - The Complete RCA Album Collection [63CD Box Set] (2013) MP3

2013 | Classical
MP3 320 Kbps | 6.14 Gb

Fritz Reiner was one of the foremost conductors of his time. Crowning his long career in Europe and America was the decade from 1954 to 1963 as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra an illustrious partnership that ranks along such other historical tenures as Karajan's in Berlin, Szell's in Cleveland and Bernstein's in New York.
Luckily for posterity, Reiner's legendary interpretations at the helm of the Chicago Symphony which no less than Igor Stravinsky called "the most precise and flexible orchestra in the world" were captured on record by RCA Victor. Now for the first time ever, they are being issued together in a single Sony Classical box set of 63 re-mastered CDs.
A champion of 20th-century music, he could also give incomparably lilting performances of Strauss waltzes. In both Pittsburgh and Chicago, Reiner recorded works by his former teacher Bartók, and he was instrumental in convincing Serge Koussevitzky to commission Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra in 1943. His classic 1955 Chicago recording of that masterpiece is among the glories of this new set.
Every recording in this new 63-CD set comes from the best re-mastered source. A third have been newly re-mastered from the original tapes. This Reiner/Chicago Symphony edition is destined to become a cornerstone of serious record collections around the world.

Maria Callas - The Complete Studio Recordings 1949-1969 [Remastered Edition, 70CD Box Set] (2014) [Hi-Res]

FLAC 24-96, Lossless | Classical | 17,6 Gb + 20,17 Gb + 16,65 Gb

Due for release on September 22 is ‘Callas Remastered: The Complete Studio Recordings’, a 69-disc Warner Classics box-set produced as the result of a major remastering project to transfer the original tapes to 24-bit/96kHz digital sound.

Containing 26 operas and 13 recital albums, and the subject of a major feature in Gramophone’s 2014 Awards issue, on sale now, the Callas project will also be available as 24-bit/96kHz downloads from the Bowers & Wilkins Society of Sound, exclusively from Monday (September 22) until October 5.

The new set encompasses all the studio recordings Callas made for both EMI/Columbia and the Italian label Cetra between 1949 and 1969, and while these recordings have previously been remastered at CD quality, remastering engineer Allan Ramsay explains that this is the first time the tapes have been remastered at 24-bit/96kHz ‘beyond CD’ quality: ‘What this means is we’ve now got more high-frequency content and better definition to the sound.

‘We’ve been so careful in this project not to tamper, just to remove technical faults…for example, to reduce the rumble from a passing tube train at the Kingsway Hall, even remove the noise of a motorbike outside La Scala, Vespas going past and you can hear this noise which is terrible, it’s louder than the singing in some cases. With the technology we have now, we can reduce this noise and give the sound of the voice without interference.’

The remastering was carried out at London’s Abbey Road Studios with Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series speakers used throughout the process. The Worthing-based speaker company has a relationship with the studios going back more than a quarter of a century. Abbey Road engineer Andy Walters says that, for a project like this, ‘It’s obviously important that the monitoring speakers and room acoustics of a remastering room are superb: Bowers & Wilkins speakers don’t flatter or compliment the sound, but give a complete, true response.

‘This means we can hear exactly what problems might exist on an original master recording and then be afforded the opportunity to put them right, using our state-of-the-art technology.’

‘Callas Remastered: The Complete Studio Recordings’ contains at least one complete recording (in certain cases two recordings) of all Callas’s most famous stage roles, with the exception of Anna Bolena, though the lengthy final scene of that opera features on the recital ‘Mad Scenes’. The collection also contains complete recordings of operas she sang on stage more rarely – or even never at all – such as Manon Lescaut and Carmen.

Johann Nepomuk Hummel - Hummel Edition, Vol. 1, 2 [20CD Limited Edition Box Set] (2018)

Artist: Johann Nepomuk Hummel

Year Of Release: 2018
Label (Catalog#): Brilliant Classics
Country: EU
Genre: Classical

Bitrate: Lossless
Time: 20:49:08
Full Size: 5,05 Gb

Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) was a pupil of Mozart, a prot?g? of Haydn, a friendly rival of Beethoven, and renowned throughout Europe as one of the greatest pianists of his day, a sought-after teacher who instructed some of the most distinguished 19th-century virtuosi, the author of an influential treatise on the art of pianism, and himself the composer of over three hundred works covering all musical genres (apart from the symphony). This edition provides a cross-section of Hummel's excellent, prolific and unjustly neglected output, with a large section of solo piano music including the complete sonatas and etudes and a rich selection of chamber music featuring violin, viola, cello, flute, and guitar with piano, as well as larger ensembles from piano trios to septets. Though not a symphonist (perhaps not wishing to compete in that arena with the undoubted genius of his contemporary Beethoven), Hummel had great skill with the orchestra, as this set proves with his many concertante works, all rivalling the well-known Trumpet Concerto, among them concertos for piano, piano and violin, bassoon, mandolin, violin (unfinished, completed by conductor composer Gregory Rose) and the Introduction, Theme and Variations Op.102 for oboe and orchestra. Haydn's recommendation of Hummel for the post of Konzertmeister at the court of Prince Esterhazy was the beginning of eight turbulent years at Eisenstadt. Fiercely independent, Hummel found fitting in with the manners and politics of the court difficult, and yet this was a very productive time. All his sacred music represented on this set by a Te Deum, a Solemn Mass, the offertory Alma Virgo and the oratorio Der Durchzug durchs rote Meer for soloists, choir and orchestra and several dramatic works including the opera Mathilde von Guise were composed during this period.

Naxos The 30th Anniversary Collection [Box Set 30CDs] (2017) FLAC

2017 | Classical
FLAC, Lossless | 8.20 Gb

In 2017, Naxos Records celebrates its 30th anniversary. Founded in 1987 by Klaus Heymann, the label now boasts a catalogue of over 9,000 albums spanning every genre of classical music. This limited edition anniversary boxed set comprises thirty CDs spanning the wide range of the label's repertoire. Featuring releases from 1987 to 2016 and a host of stellar artists, every one of these discs has received critical acclaim and has contributed towards the huge success of Naxos: the world's largest independent classical record label. Naxos was launched in 1987 as a budget classical CD label, offering CDs at teh price of an LP when CDs cost about three times more than LPs. The focus was on recording the standard classical repertoire in state-of-the-art digital sound with outstanding, if unknown artists and orchestras, initially mainly from Slovankia and Hungary. The parent company's existing rarity label, Marco Polo had been producing recordings in these two countries since 1982. Having recorded the most popular classical works, Naxos started to tackle complete cycles, beginning with the complete Haydn string quartets performed by the Kodaly Quartet. This cycle was the first to bring the fledgling budget label international critical acclaim. Once the label had established a reputation for sonic and artistic excellence it attracted interest from orchestras and artists in Western Europe and elsewhere. Recording the complete works by all the most important composers became one of the missions of Naxos. From the beginning, the label established close relations with artists willing to commit to teh Naxos mission. These became Naxos house artists, starting with Jen Jandó, the prolific Hungarian pianist who made the first Naxos recording in 1986 and continues to record to this day. Others include the violinists Takako Nishizaki, Ilya Kaler, Henning Kraggerud and Tianwa Yang; the cellist Maria Kliegel: the gutiarist Norbert Kraft; the pianist Idil Biret; and others. Naxos also established close relationships with many conductors and their orchestras - Antoni Wit with the Polish National Radio Symphony and the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra; Helmut Müller-Brühl and his Cologne Chamber Orchestra; Leonard Slatkin with his Detroit Symphony and Lyon National Orchestra; Jun Märkl with the MDR Symphony and the Lyon National Orchestra; James Judd and the New Zealand Symphony; JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic; our American hometown orchestra, the Nashville Symphony with Kenneth Schermerhorn and Giancarlo Guerrero; and the Buffalo Philharmonic; our American hometown orchestra, the Nashville Symphony with Kenneth Schermerhorn and Giancarlo Guerrero; Kevin Mallon and his Aradia Ensemble; Gerard Schwarz and his Seattle Symphony; and many others. Today, Naxos has a catalogue of over 9,000 titles and releases about 200 new titles per year, covering a wide range of often unique repertoire, recorded in more than 30 countries. The humble budget label has morphed into one of the most respected classical labels, regardless of price. Parallel to the growth of the label, naxos built a worldwide distribution and marketing infrastructure for its own and most other independent classical labels. Naxos is also the industry leader in the digital presentation of classical music. In 1996, it made the complete catalogues of Naxos and Marco Polo available for streaming. In 2002, the company launched Naxos Music Library, the industry's first subs*****ion streaming platform. This 30th anniversary box offers a representative selection of landmark recordings from the label's history but is also a tribute to the artists and orchestras with whom the label is identified and who are identified with the label.
