Nigel Poulton, "The Kubernetes Book"
English | ISBN: 1521823634 | 2017 | 191 pages | AZW3 | 7 MB
September 2020 edition.

Every page and every example has been checked against the latest versions of Kubernetes (1.18) and the latest trends in the cloud-native ecosystem.
Containers have revolutionized the way we package and run applications. However, like most things, containers come with their own set of challenges. This is where Kubernetes enters the scene.
Kubernetes helps you deploy and manage containerized applications at scale. It also abstracts the underlying infrastructure so that you don't need to care if you're deploying applications to Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or your own on-premises datacenter. With Kubernetes, you can develop applications on your laptop, deploy to your favourite cloud platform, migrate to a different cloud platform, and even migrate to your private cloud at your on-premises datacenter.
The Kubernetes Book starts from the beginning, explains all concepts in a clear and friendly manner, and covers everything needed for you to become proficient at Kubernetes. It even includes two chapters dedicated to threat-modeling Kubernetes and real-world security.
You'll learn:
- Kubernetes architecture
- How to build Kubernetes
- How to deploy, self-heal, scale, and perform rolling updates on applications
- How to secure Kubernetes
- The meaning of terms such as; cloud-native, microservices, desired state, containerized, and more...
Finally, Kubernetes and cloud technologies are developing fast! That's why this book will be updated at least once per year, meaning it's always up-to-date with the latest versions of Kubernetes and the latest trends in the cloud-native ecosystem.

The Lady Upstairs: Dorothy Schiff and the New York Post by Marilyn Nissenson
English | April 3, 2007 | ISBN: 0312313101, 031231311X | True EPUB | 512 pages | 1.1 MB
The Lady Upstairs is the dramatic story of Dorothy Schiff―liberal activist, society stalwart, and the most dynamic female newspaper ✅Publisher of her day. From 1939 until 1976 she owned and guided the New York Post, the oldest continuously published daily newspaper in the United States. Dolly, as she was called, made the Post one of the most dedicated supporters of New Deal liberalism in the country, while simultaneously maintaining its distinct personality as a chatty, parochial, New York tabloid.

Unfazed by political or personal controversy, Schiff backed editorial writers like James Wechsler and Max Lerner and reporters like Murray Kempton and Pete Hamill. Under her guidance the Post broke the story of Richard Nixon's slush fund. It helped bring down such icons of the day as Joseph McCarthy, Walter Winchell, and Robert Moses. It supported the civil rights movement and opposed the Vietnam War. Although Dolly seldom appeared in the newsroom, she approved and commented on every major story and every minor column in the paper, until eventually selling it to Rupert Murdoch.
Dolly's private life could have been a staple of the Post's society gossip columns. Endlessly flirtatious, she married four times and had extramarital romances with, among others, Franklin Roosevelt and Max Beaverbrook. She was a friend of national politicians such as Adlai Stevenson, the Kennedys, Lyndon Johnson, and Nelson Rockefeller. Born into a staunchly Republican German-Jewish banking family, she used her inheritance to further causes of the political left. She used her charm and her social connections in the service of her paper, which was the center of her life.
The Lady Upstairs is the portrait of a unique life and a crucial era in American history.

The Laissez-Faire Peasant: Post-Socialist Rural Development in Serbia
by Jovana Diković
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1800087594 | 258 Pages | True PDF | 8.3 MB

In rural development studies there are two mainstream assumptions. One holds that peasants are the victims of state rural development schemes, the other that only planning can ensure change and prosperity in rural regions. It is rarely considered that peasants are architects of their own and local wellbeing - notions which are often in opposition to state plans for agriculture. The Laissez-Faire Peasant explores how rural development emerges on the ground. The concept involves the manifestation of peasant worldviews in which autonomy in decision-making, freedom of action, spontaneity, and flexibility in everyday cooperation play a dominant role. A role in which individual and local values generate a self-regulating system that manages a range of economic, social, and political relationships. The book examines manifestations of peasant autonomy, both in response to and independent of state rural development policies through a multi-sited ethnography of three Serbian villages. It is shown how these factors impede state programs for rural development while enabling the spontaneous flourishing of local communities. By focusing on the agency of rural residents, the book finds that peasants are resilient and competent agents who do not need government plans to thrive.

Yossi Katz, "The Land Shall Not Be Sold in Perpetuity: The Jewish National Fund and the History of State Ownership of Land in Israel"
English | ISBN: 3110415933 | 2016 | 248 pages | EPUB, PDF | 7 MB + 6 MB
The State of Israel is the only Western state where the majority of lands are still owned by the State and by a public body related to it (The Jewish National Fund). At the root lies the divine command stating that the Land of Israel belongs to God and therefore should not be traded in perpetuity (Leviticus 25). This principle has been applied to almost all of the State lands, and was established in a Basic Law. Since the 1980s there were many pressures in Israel to privatize at least part of the State's and JNF's lands, due to the general privatization process of Israel's economy, the deepening globalization process, and the transformation of Israel to an individualistic society. However, only a small portion of the lands were privatized, constituting 4% of the area of Israel. The book is based wholly on primary sources. It describes and analyzes the history of the ideological, social and legal processes that took place and their development since the beginning of the 20th century until today - processes that brought about the unique phenomenon of the State of Israel as an advanced capitalistic state whose lands are mostly state-owned.

The Landscape Ecology of Fire by Donald McKenzie, Carol Miller, Donald A. Falk
English | PDF (True) | 2011 | 320 Pages | ISBN : 9400703007 | 13.6 MB
Global warming is expected to change fire regimes, likely increasing the severity and extent of wildfires in many ecosystems around the world. What will be the landscape-scale effects of these altered fire regimes? Within what theoretical contexts can we accurately assess these effects? We explore the possible effects of altered fire regimes on landscape patch dynamics, dominant species (tree, shrub, or herbaceous) and succession, sensitive and invasive plant and animal species and communities, and ecosystem function. Ultimately, we must consider the human dimension: what are the policy and management implications of increased fire disturbance, and what are the implications for human communities?

The Language of Mathematics: The Stories behind the Symbols
by Raúl Rojas
English | 2025 | ISBN: 0691201889 | 280 Pages | True ePUB | 30 MB

A marvelous compendium of mathematical symbols and their fascinating histories
Galileo famously wrote that the book of nature is written in mathematical language. The Language of Mathematics is a wide-ranging and beautifully illustrated collection of short, colorful histories of the most commonly used symbols in mathematics, providing readers with an engaging introduction to the origins, evolution, and conceptual meaning of each one.
In dozens of lively and informative entries, Raúl Rojas shows how today's mathematics stands on the shoulders of giants, mathematicians from around the world who developed mathematical notation through centuries of collective effort. He tells the stories of such figures as al-Khwārizmī, René Descartes, Joseph-Louis Lagrange, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Augustin-Louis Cauchy, Karl Weierstrass, Sofia Kovalevskaya, David Hilbert, and Kenneth Iverson. Topics range from numbers and variables to sets and functions, constants, and combinatorics. Rojas describes the mathematical problems associated with different symbols and reveals how mathematical notation has sometimes been an accidental process. The entries are self-contained and can be read in any order, each one examining one or two symbols, their history, and the variants they may have had over time.
An essential companion for math enthusiasts, The Language of Mathematics shows how mathematics is a living and evolving entity, forever searching for the best symbolism to express relationships between abstract concepts and to convey meaning.

The Large-Scale Structure of Inductive Inference
by John D. Norton
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1773855395 | 450 Pages | PDF | 11 MB

The Large-Scale Structure of Inductive Inference investigates the relations of inductive support on the large scale, among the totality of facts comprising a science or science in general. These relations form a massively entangled, non-hierarchical structure which is discovered by making hypotheses provisionally that are later supported by facts drawn from the entirety of the science. What results is a benignly circular, self-supporting inductive structure in which universal rules are not employed, the classical Humean problem cannot be formulated and analogous regress arguments fail.
The earlier volume, The Material Theory of Induction, proposed that individual inductive inferences are warranted not by universal rules but by facts particular to each context. This book now investigates how the totality of these inductive inferences interact in a mature science. Each fact that warrants an individual inductive inference is in turn supported inductively by other facts. Numerous case studies in the history of science support, and illustrate further, those claims. This is a novel, thoroughly researched, and sustained remedy to the enduring failures of formal approaches to inductive inference.
With The Large-Scale Structure of Inductive Inference, author John D. Norton presents a novel, thoroughly researched, and sustained remedy to the enduring failures of formal approaches of inductive inference.

She brings the box to Elizabeth's grieving husband, Ralph. Working together, they are stunned to discover that Elizabeth was part of a secret society established by Hamilton himself to keep the United States just and free, its influence woven into every corner of the country's history. As Sarah and Ralph race through the streets of New York to uncover the truth behind Elizabeth's death, they must stop an ingenious and sinister Description before someone else catches up to them-and the secrets of Hamilton's society are lost forever.

The Last Peasant War: Violence and Revolution in Twentieth-Century Eastern Europe by Jakub S. Beneš
English | January 28, 2025 | ISBN: 0691212538 | True EPUB | 400 pages | 24.3 MB
A history of the largely forgotten peasant revolution that swept central and eastern Europe after World War I-and how it changed the course of interwar politics and World War II

As the First World War ended, villages across central and eastern Europe rose in revolt. Led in many places by a shadowy movement of army deserters, peasants attacked those whom they blamed for wartime abuses and long years of exploitation-large estate owners, officials, and merchants, who were often Jewish. At the same time, peasants tried to realize their rural visions of a reborn society, establishing local self-government or attempting to influence the new states that were being built atop the wreckage of the Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires. In The Last Peasant War, Jakub Beneš presents the first comprehensive history of this dramatic and largely forgotten revolution and traces its impact on interwar politics and the course of the Second World War.
Sweeping large portions of the countryside between the Alps and the Urals from 1917 to 1921, this peasant revolution had momentous aftereffects, especially among Slavic peoples in the former lands of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It enabled an unprecedented expansion of agrarian politics in the interwar period and provided a script for rural resistance that was later revived to resist Nazi occupation and to challenge Communist rule in east central Europe.
By shifting historical focus from well-studied cities to the often-neglected countryside, The Last Peasant War reveals how the movements and ambitions of peasant villagers profoundly shaped Europe's most calamitous decades.
