The Long Dark ist ein »Sandbox«-Spiel im Episodenformat, in dem sich der Protagonist nach einem Flugzeugabsturz zusammen mit anderen Überlebenden in der Wildnis Nordamerikas wiederfindet. Der Titel soll eine offene Spielwelt bieten. Aus der First-Person-Perspektive müssen Wasser und Nahrung gefunden werden. Die Wetterbedingungen und der Tag-Nacht-Wechsel werden simuliert. Die Entwicklung des Spiels soll durch Crowdfunding finanziert werden.
