This book considers the composition, production, testing methods and application of modern cellulose fibre cement boards (FCB). FCB replaced widespread but now illegal and harmful asbestos building products. Despite the complexity of the FCB fabrication process, the material is currently widely implemented. In the first chapter, the basic idea and microstructure of cellulose FCB is described, with the next chapter concerned with the process of the industrial fabrication of the composite material. The third chapter explores both the basic testing procedures described in international standards and more novel methods. The last section of the book deals with the practical applications of the product, which are illustrated by many existing examples. The pictures of the aesthetical façades of building as well as the remarks on FCB exploitation and economics of implementation of the product are included here. The book will be valuable for researchers, architects, and both graduate and post-graduate students, as well as practicing engineers concerned with building technology
About the Author
Associate Professor of Technical Science Zbigniew Ranachowski is Head of the Laboratory of Non-Destructive Testing at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Having completed his habilitation in 1998 at Cracow University of Science and Technology, Poland, he is the co-author of more than 60 scientific papers on the testing of various physical properties of solids with the application of modern diagnostic equipment. He is also a member of the Polish Acoustical Society and Secretary of the Scientific Council at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research. Krzysztof Schabowicz is Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Faculty at Wrocaw University of Technology, Poland, having received his PhD in 2003 from the same institution. He is the author and co-author of three books, as well as over 100 other publications, and is a member of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians and the Polish Association of Building Mycology. His research interests include ultrasonic tomography, impulse-response, and artificial intelligence algorithms, among others
