Tears For Fears 1989 album The Seeds of Love (#73 in the ongoing SDE Surround Series)
The recording sessions for the band's third and final album in the '80s (the last with Curt Smith until 2004's Everybody Loves A Happy Ending) were a famously protracted affair, taking four years to complete at a reputed cost of £1m. Perfectionism was the name of the game, along with a passion for more organic sessions, which saw a switch from electronics to 'real instruments', the addition of world-class session musicians (Manu Katche, Pino Palladino etc), and Kansas-based singer Oleta Adams. This all worked to stunning effect on the complex, Beatles-y lead single 'Sowing The Seeds Of Love' which reached the top 5 both sides of the Atlantic and on the singles 'Woman in Chains' and the fan (and band) favourite 'Badman's Song'. Other highlights include the breezy Steely Dan-esque 'Advice For The Young At Heart' (the third single) and the driving 'Year of the Knife'.
This Seeds of Love blu-ray disc features a brand new Steven Wilson Dolby Atmos Mix, an updated 5.1 mix (not the same as the one in the 2020 box set) and for the first time Steven Wilson's stereo mix is commercially released (this was first created in 2020 and updated in 2023). Additionally, the blu-ray includes an unreleased 2023 Miles Showell stereo remaster of The Seeds of Love (prepared for a half-speed vinyl pressing whch is part of this campaign), full instrumental versions in Atmos, 5.1 and Stereo and what Roland Orzabal called the "magical" Townhouse Live Jam Sessions from the long out-of-print box set, which include Roland singing 'Rhythm of Life'.
