This course is for everyone serious learners.The portrait is done in Alla Prima style, painted mostly in two sittings.Getting to know the likeness of model with the help good drawing is explained.Understanding of light and shadow is explained .Importance of brush strokes has been given major importance.The advantages of Portrait painting in Oil Paint include "greater flexibility, richer and denser color, the use of layers, and a wider range from light to dark".Edges, types of edges, and edge control to create a focal point, Basic color theory., Value and color relationship using the color wheel and its relationship with the value scale.Painting the face and figure will ALLWAYS force you to focus hard on accuracy. If the nose is a little to the right, or too long, it will certainly be noticed-as opposed to a missing limb on a tree or the proper length of a house.I suggest using a plumb line and level when painting portraits and figures, but even with those tools, you will quickly learn to deal with criticism-at the very least, your subject will be there to judge your work!Portraits are effective and compelling when they tell us something about the person.
