Wir schreiben das Jahr 1930. Durch vollkommen unvorhersehbare Umstände wird der Taxifahrer Tommy plötzlich zu einem Mitglied der Mafia. Zu Anfang fährt er sein Taxi weiterhin durch die Stadt und sein Leben scheint in Ordnung zu sein. Bald freundet er sich mit seinen Kumpeln Paulie und Sam an und obwohl die Aufträge etwas riskanter werden, verdient er immerhin nun mehr Geld als vorher als Taxifahrer allein. Aber mit der Zeit erhält er immer mehr unangenehme Jobs und die ernüchternde Realität seines neuen Lebens bricht herein.
