In this6-section self-paced course, learners will explore six fascinating civilisations and periods of history through the lens of art. Instead of simply reading about the past, they will investigate artworks, discover the stories and ideas behind them, and then use what they have learned as inspiration for their own creative projects.
Each section focuses on a different civilisation or artistic period. Learners will explore famous artworks, consider what these artworks can tell us about the people who created them, and experiment with artistic techniques inspired by the past.
The aim isnot to create perfect copies or produce historically accurate masterpieces. Instead, history becomes a springboard for creativity, curiosity, critical thinking, and self-expression. There are no right or wrong artistic answers!

Explore Egyptian hieroglyphs and tomb paintings, and discover how art was connected to religion, beliefs, and life after death.
Section 2: The Vikings
Discover Viking wood carving and runic designs, exploring the symbols, patterns, and artistic traditions of Viking culture.
Section 3: China
Explore beautiful blue-and-white porcelain and traditional Chinese ink painting while discovering how artists used line, shape, colour, and nature in their work.
Section 4: The Italian Renaissance
Step into Renaissance Italy and discover perspective and portraiture while learning how artists developed new ways of representing the world around them.
Section 5: The Kingdom of Benin
Explore the extraordinary bronze plaques of the Kingdom of Benin and discover the stories, people, and traditions represented through African art. Learners will also explore Adinkra cloth and symbolic designs.
Section 6: Modern Art
Explore Pop Art and beyond, including the bold and colourful work of artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Learners will discover how modern artists challenged traditional ideas about art and developed new ways to express themselves.
How is the course structured?
The course is divided intosix sections, with each section containing a visually engaging video lesson and creative activities.
