TTC - War in the Modern World
Released 06/2022
MP4 | Video: h264, 1280x720 | Audio: AAC, 44.1 KHz, 2 Ch
Genre: eLearning | Language: English | Duration: 24 Lessons (11h 21m) | Size: 9.7 GB

World War II was a formidable conflict that engulfed more than 50 nations, many of them world powers. While it ended with peace, the global conflict culminated in massive human and material costs. The Soviet Union lost millions of soldiers and civilians. The United Kingdom sustained relentless bombing campaigns by Axis air forces. And Japan saw the destruction of two major cities via atomic bomb: Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Across the world, whole cities were leveled and millions of people-Axis and Allied, civilians and soldier-were displaced or killed

Landscapes and populations weren't the only things that changed, though. A new world order emerged when the ink on the peace treaty dried in 1945, altering borders, ushering in new geopolitical realities, and leaving the West to contend with a new enemy: the Soviet Union, a communist empire intent on spreading its ideology and influence across the globe. These changes, along with the introduction of innovative but extremely destructive weapons like nuclear bombs and drones, ushered in a new kind of warfare that has characterized violent conflicts across the globe for the last three-quarters of a century.

In 24 masterfully designed and clearly presented episodes, War in the Modern World explores the new face of war. US Naval War College professor David R. Stone is your expert guide. A scholar of Russian military history, he is well-versed in the strategy, policy, and history behind modern conflicts and wars across the globe. With David in the front seat, you will examine modern war through modern conflicts, exploring decades of violent conflicts between and within nation-states. You will define insurgency and counterinsurgency warfare as well as the strategies that underlie both. You will learn about the weapons that fundamentally changed how countries and rebel groups fight. And you will understand how highly localized civil and insurgent conflicts became the new terrains on which great powers wage war.

Strategy and Weapons: The Characteristics of Modern War

How are wars fought in the modern era, and who actually fights them? Do tanks, brute force, ground troops, and submarines still matter when it comes to war? Should we be worried about the threat of cyberwar? What kinds of strategies do insurgent and counterinsurgent groups follow when they are engaged in violent conflicts? In this new world, weapons and new technologies changed the rules of the battlefield and local battles and proxy wars have become the new military frontier. As this course demonstrates, a third world war could be eminent-and how the "McDonald's theory" could play a role in peacekeeping.

With David Stone at the helm, explore the characteristics of modern warfare. Dive into the dominant theories that try to explain why and how war changed after 1945. Become familiar with the modern weapons-nuclear bombs, IEDs, the Kalashnikov assault rifle, guided missiles, drones, and cyber attacks-that have transformed modern warfare and have empowered rebel groups on virtually every continent. Evaluate why direct confrontation between world powers is extremely unlikely nowadays. Examine the ideas behind insurgency, like Mao Zedong's theory of revolution and the foquismo theory, typified by left-wing revolutionary fighters like Che Guevara and Fidel Castro. See how empire and colonialism fit into modern theories of war. Understand why counterinsurgency warfare is so much harder and more costly than insurgent warfare. And determine what a major war between the United States and other world powers might look like in the future.

Modern War through Modern Conflicts

War in the Modern World is also a crash course in military, political, and international history. You will dive into the events that followed World War II and how they gave rise to major confrontations on the world stage. You will understand the major causes and consequences of contemporary wars. You will learn about the individual personalities that have defined violent conflicts since 1945, from Joseph Stalin to Saddam Hussein. And you will contextualize what you've learned about the shape of modern war by diving into specific conflicts like

China's Civil War. Explore the insurgent strategies used by Mao Zedong, a former peasant turned communist revolutionary, to overtake mainland China, and examine the extent to which great powers like the USSR and the United States became involved in the conflict.
The Korean War. Understand why America's war on the Korean peninsula ended in temporary armistice and not peace, a clear departure from the definitive peace treaties that ended both world wars.
The Arab-Israeli Wars. Today, Israel has a contentious relationship with its Arab neighbors and the Arab population living inside of its borders. Explore the history behind the complicated hostilities, and how they have manifested in persistent violent conflicts in the Middle East.
The Cuban Missile Crisis. Nuclear weapons and the idea of mutually assured destruction changed the way great powers engage with each other on the world stage. See what it means when two nuclear powers-the United States and the USSR-wind up in a direct confrontation with each other.
America's Vietnam War. While the decolonization of Vietnam was unpleasant for France, America's Vietnam War dragged on for decades, culminating in intense political opposition at home and military defeat in Asia. Dive into the conflict's root causes, key players, and political impact back home in the United States.
The Yugoslav War. How can ethnic tensions in a region explode into a major conflict that demands attention from the United States and other world powers? Become acquainted with the causes and consequences of the civil war in former Yugoslavia.
Russia's War in Chechnya. Imperial and territorial ambitions have been a source of violent conflict between nation-states for quite some time. But in the modern period, wars over territory and the populations that live there look different. Understand how by delving into the Russian Federation's tumultuous war with a former Soviet colony Chechnya.
The Iraq War. Counterinsurgency warfare-a fairly modern strategy-is extremely difficult. The United States' war in Iraq demonstrates why that is the case. Explore the controversial war and what it meant for the United States to pursue regime change and democracy in the region.
War in the Modern World examines war conceptually, strategically, historically, and geopolitically. It takes a macro and micro approach, focusing on the broad contours of modern warfare conceptually and how violent conflicts have unfolded in real time after 1945. By studying warfare in the late 20th and 21st centuries you will expand your knowledge of world history, become better versed in current and international affairs, and be able to analyze and talk informedly about present and future conflicts. Overall, you will emerge a more engaged and informed global citizen.

What Will You Learn?
Examine the role of Osama bin Laden, al-Qa'ida attacks, and America's 20-year war in Afghanistan

Dive into the thorny history of Israel and Palestine, from the rise of Zionism in the 19th century to the Six-Day War, and investigate the series of Arab-Israeli wars that shaped the region into what it is today

Explore America's war in Vietnam by examining the history and military strategy behind the conflict across two decades and three US presidencies

Understand what it really means to fight a civil war and learn about the extraordinarily violent conflicts that tore Congo and Rwanda apart

TTC - Understanding Disorders of the Brain
Released 06/2022
MP4 | Video: h264, 1280x720 | Audio: AAC, 44.1 KHz, 2 Ch
Genre: eLearning | Language: English | Duration: 24 Lessons (11h 37m) | Size: 9.95 GB

The brain is a complex and mysterious organ. When everything goes right, it is a finely tuned machine that serves as our body's central processing unit. But like computers on the fritz, things occasionally go haywire in the brain, and the effects can be absolutely crushing. What happens when things...

The fields of psychology, neuroscience, and-more recently-neuropsychology are developing rapidly, offering more clues to unlocking the secrets of the brain. In the century and a half since railroad worker Phineas Gage's famous personality-altering injury, scientists have mapped out the anatomy of the brain and examined the pathology of disorders such as

Down syndrome,
Autism spectrum disorder,
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),
Parkinson's disease, and
Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Modern technology and research are allowing us to delve deeper than ever before into the fascinating world of brain science. Understanding Disorders of the Brain gives you an in-depth analysis of what can go awry inside our central processing unit. Taught by esteemed Professor Sandy Neargarder, these 24 eye-opening lessons survey some of the most common-and not-so-common-disorders that disrupt the many ways our brains function.

Professor Neargarder explores what we know about diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and more. She digs into the wiring of individuals with dyslexia, people prone to epileptic seizures, and mitochondrial diseases. And she analyzes the effects of traumas, ranging from athletic head injuries to strokes.

For each disorder, she walks you through the genetic and environmental factors that underlie the pathology, shares insight about the signs and symptoms to look out for, and reviews the latest research on treatment and cures. Building a better understanding of these disorders can help all of us minimize some risk factors, recognize symptoms, and ensure the best course of action for ourselves and those we love.

Delve into Diseases Wired at Birth

The course opens with a tour of how the brain is hardwired. From the cerebellum to the hypothalamus and from the limbic system to the cerebral cortex, you will uncover the secrets of this magnificent machine within our skulls. You will then get an introduction to the burgeoning field of "neuropsychology"-a field that uncovers the relationship between the brain's function and cognitive behavior. This field allows scientists to properly assess brain disorders.

Whether written into our genetic code or caused by early environmental factors such as not receiving enough oxygen in the womb, many disorders of the brain are baked in at birth. While some intellectual disabilities are relatively mild, many require intensive lifelong treatment. Your investigation into early-onset disorders takes you into the realm of the brain's visuospatial system, communication systems, and more.

One of the more common ailments in the news today, diagnosed early in life, is autism spectrum disorder. While not completely understood, recent research has shed new light onto autism-now recognized as a spectrum of disorders that includes Asperger's syndrome. In a pair of lessons, Professor Neargarder investigates many of the truths and mistruths about autism and its impact on social engagement, communication, and more.

From Tumors to Traumas

While many brain disorders are present from birth, many do not show up until adulthood. For instance, multiple sclerosis, or MS, is a disorder in which the protective coating on our nerve cells becomes damaged. MS is the most common non-traumatic disabling disease affecting younger adults and is most often diagnosed between ages 20 and 50.

The maddening thing about MS is that it is a highly individualistic disease. If 10 people with MS presented themselves, they would all have different symptoms and different patterns of progression. The complex nature of brain disorders like MS and others makes them incredibly difficult to understand and treat.

Brain tumors are an excellent example of highly unique disorders. Most of us know about-and are likely apprehensive of-brain tumors, but you might not know that there are roughly 120 types of brain and central nervous system tumors, characterized by size and how fast they progress (or metastasize). Professor Neargarder walks you through the most common types and associated symptoms to watch out for.

While scientists are at odds about the genetic versus environmental causes of most brain disorders, head traumas are decidedly environmental. While head injuries can share some common characteristics, they are unfortunately as varied as every individual. Here, you will survey what can happen from acute traumas such as car accidents and bomb blasts, as well as injuries sustained over time, such as from football or other contact sports.

Dementia and Bodily Decline

Old age is not for the faint of heart. In addition to the various bodily declines as we age, our brains are at risk for a range of dementias-conditions that describe a decline in memory functions. Over several in-depth lessons, Professor Neargarder dives into many of the most common types of dementia, including

Alzheimer's disease
Lewy body disease
Dementia from Parkinson's disease
Vascular dementia
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD)
Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome
Memory loss from dementia can be frightening and watching someone we love go through it can be heartbreaking. While there are no cures, Professor Neargarder reviews what we currently know about these disorders-and more important, what we can do to try to stave them off.

Tour the Future of Neuroscience

Exploring the complex world of brain disorders is captivating-but it can also be surprising to see all the ways our central processing unit can fail us, from cellular breakdown to seizures caused by misfiring neurons. Despite all the unknowns about brain disorders, Professor Neargarder provides a full overview of the advancements in technology and medicine, demonstrating how our toolkit for combatting brain disorders is larger than ever.

She shows you some of the latest advances in brain research and how they affect the treatment of brain disorders. As you will discover, several large-scale research projects are underway to examine both healthy and diseased brains. Meanwhile, cutting-edge imaging, artificial intelligence, and genome studies are creating the future of brain science.

Some of the recommendations from this research may reinforce what we already know. For example, a healthy diet, plenty of exercise, and regular wellness exams are the keys to preventing strokes. And as you glimpse into the future of neuroscience and medicine, you will come away mesmerized by what's possible.

Science has come a long way in solving the mysteries of the human brain, but we still have a long way to go. Understanding Disorders of the Brain is a powerful introduction to the journey of brain science in the 21st century.

What Will You Learn?
Get to know the anatomy of the brain and how each part functions

Survey many of most common, and not-so-common, disorders of the brain

Study the role of genetics and the environment on causes and treatments

Learn the signs and symptoms of conditions from autism to Alzheimer's

A computer capable of running Unity 2021
Description
Tower defence games are continuing to gain in popularity online. In this course I am going to show you how to create your own zombie tower defence game.
When I was creating this course I was initially thinking, should it be an overhead tower defence style game, or should it be a first person shooter style game. Well, when you have two great ideas, why not combine them. So this is a Hybrid of both overhead point and click as well as first person shooter.
The techniques covered in this course can be used to make any type of defence style games. Think of this as a template that you can use again and again and you can customise the game any way you like to realise your vision.
So what is covered in the course
We develop a system for placing props into the level, with the ability to change items using an easy to create User Interface
Items can be placed freehand, or by pressing the spacebar, can be made to snap together either horizontally or vertically
Each item will have different purposes. Some will simply block the zombies, some will damage the zombies, some will blow them up, and in the case of the gun turrets, these will target and shoot the zombies
Once you have laid out your items the zombies will then begin spawning into the scene and you will enter into first person mode
You can change between overhead and first person modes to quickly navigate the map
We will setup a range of weapon types, ammo amounts and damage styles for each weapon, including sniper scope for the sniper rifle
You will have access to six zombies that I created for this course. You can use them in any of your other games too
The objective is to defend the tower. You must kill all the zombies on each level to unlock the next level
This course can be taken by anyone using the free Unity game engine. A basic understanding of C# code is suggested for you to make the most of this course. By the end of the course you will have another completed game in your portfolio. You will have developed your skills to an intermediate level and be ready to make your own Unity games.
So why not enroll today, and I look forward to seeing you in my course.
Thanks to the artists from Sketchfab for their 3D models used in this course
Who this course is for
Anyone who wants to learn how to make great games in Unity
Learners wanting to develop their C# coding skills upto an intermediate level
Designers looking for a great tower defence game template

Most Americans these days consider entrepreneurship to be a good career. More than half of all American adults will start at least one business during their working life. In fact, an even greater percentage of the workforce now wants to work from home. Due to the shutdowns of the COVID-19..

In How to Turn Your Passion into Profit, business expert Tara McMullin will guide you through the process of creating your own business. But this is not your typical "overnight success" course. In fact, as she leads you through the creative process of developing a business that you will enjoy running for years to come, Tara turns some commonly held ideas about entrepreneurship completely upside down. For example, you might think your first task would be to identify what you want to sell. Not so fast, Tara says. You think your goal should be to make as much money as possible, as quickly as possible? Think again. What about using social media to market your products on every available platform? Everyone knows that's what you need to do these days, right? Maybe. But maybe not.

Instead of rushing headlong into selling a product, Tara suggests you take a step back to ask what you want to get out of this business. Yes, you certainly want to make money. But as she explains, there are some more important basic questions to ask yourself. For example, what are the guiding principles you live by and how can they be incorporated into your new business? Do you become animated with excitement when talking to groups of people or do you prefer one-on-one communication? Do you want to develop a business that can be supported by your local community face to face or would you be more excited by international sales? With Tara's guidance, your answers to these and other questions will lead you to the appropriate business model, and to the development of a successful, long-term endeavor you will enjoy.

Building Your Business by Answering Questions

In this course, Tara will ask you to answer many questions, sometimes personal, tough questions about how you want to live your life going forward. In five modules that each build on the answers you've developed to previous questions, you will be asked to consider

Why is pursuing your passion important to you? Whatever the reasons are, you need to identify them first. That step will help you have the tenacity to overcome some of the normal obstacles you will face.
What are your guiding principles? These are the statements of intent that you will use to help you know how to structure your business. What is your intent for your business? How do you want your business to relate to your community or any social issues that are important to you? What kind of relationship do you want to have with your customers?
How does your ideal business look and feel? How do you want to describe your business? Is it friendly? Artistic? Competitive? Edgy? It might sound like taking the proverbial cart before the horse, but Tara will explain why you need to know how you want your business to feel, both for yourself and for others-even before you know what you're going to sell.
Choosing Your Business Model

A business model has three main components-what you sell, how you get paid for it, and how you deliver it. And within each of those components, there are many decisions to be made with respect to marketing, pricing, the kind of relationship you have with your customer, and much more. Tara will guide you through six different models to find the one that will best suit your needs, the one that best meets your guiding principles. The models include

Productized Service. This model involves developing and selling any service in a standardized way-with a standard set of steps and a standardized process that you package together and offer as one product. You're delivering a service, but it's sold as a product.
Packaged Consulting. In this model, you'll be delivering a specialized professional service with a written proposal, scope of work, and specific deliverable or outcome. While you'll be able to charge more in this model, you'll be working with teams and larger companies, and that can be especially challenging.
Direct-to-Consumer Retail. In this model, you'll take a physical product and sell it directly to the consumer through a website, art show, craft show, or any other physical location. There is a huge opportunity to build a loyal, repeat customer base with direct-to-consumer retail.
For each of these business models, Tara will discuss how much money you can make, how much of your time will be required, your relationship with your customer, best marketing practices, and so on. With this information in hand, you'll be able to choose the model that will work best for you.

Watching Business Development in Action

From the very beginning of this course, you'll meet Liz and Nick, two fictional individuals who are each itching to start their own business. While they both use the same business-development process, they end up with very different businesses, each well-suited to both the owner's and customer's needs.

Liz is an accountant with a day job she really likes, a job she's not planning to leave anytime soon. But she is looking for a side hustle that would give her the opportunity for meaningful relationships with customers, whom she would like to impact in a positive way. In contrast, Nick just left his job after 25 years. He is looking to try something new and is considering pursuing his love of photography full time. Nick is looking for a business that would allow him creative control over what he shoots and would also provide him with opportunities to travel and explore.

You will learn how to develop your own business as you see how Liz and Nick develop their businesses, with respect to

Identifying Your Passion. Liz is the go-to person for her friends who need career advice, and she realizes she gets really energized by those conversations. Nick already knows he's passionate about photography, but realizes he is most motivated when trying to tell the story behind a new place or landscape.
Choosing a Business Model. Of the six business models Tara presents, the best match for Liz is the one-on-one coaching model. This gives her exactly what she wants, personalized time with each client and the ability to make an impact in her customer's life. Nick chooses to develop a wholesale business, helping designers source photographs for high-end hotels and restaurants.
Packaging. Liz has decided to develop a "career discovery coaching package" that includes working for six months in bi-weekly coaching sessions, a personality test, and more. Nick's package includes a curated selection of photographs, working with a designer to transform a space with art.
In addition to the fictional individuals, Liz and Nick, you'll meet real business owners throughout this course, entrepreneurs who discuss their journeys toward the mature businesses they now own. While they share their successes, they also share the twists and turns they took along the way, some leading to great outcomes, and some not. All of it makes for great learning opportunities for anyone who wants to start a business.

With Tara's guidance, you will be able to ask the important questions that will help you determine the best business model for you. As you will discover, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to a successful business. Rather, every decision needs to adhere to your personal vision, skills, and principles-something Tara will help you explore as you enter on your own, personal entrepreneur journey.

What Will You Learn?
Discover how to build a business you will enjoy running

Learn how to set prices that will work for both you and your customers

Explore how to build a business around your personal guiding principles
