The Oxford Handbook of Early Evangelicalism (OXFORD HANDBOOKS SERIES) by Edited by Jonathan Yeager
English | October 18, 2022 | ISBN: 0190863315 | 680 pages | MOBI | 3.06 Mb
Evangelicalism, a worldwide interdenominational movement within Protestant Christianity, is one of the most popular and diverse religious movements in the world today. Evangelicals maintain the belief that the essence of the Gospel consists of the doctrine of salvation by grace, through faith in Jesus' atonement.

Evangelicals can be found on every continent and among nearly all Christian denominations. The origin of this group of people has been traced to the turn of the eighteenth century, with roots in the Puritan and Pietist movements in England and Germany. The earliest evangelicals could be found among Anglicans, Baptists, Congregationalists, Methodists, Moravians, and Presbyterians throughout North America, Britain, and Western Europe, and included some of the foremost names of the age, such as Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley, and George Whitefield. Early evangelicals were abolitionists, historians, hymn writers, missionaries, philanthropists, poets, preachers, and theologians. They participated in the major cultural and intellectual currents of the day, and founded institutions of higher education not limited to Dartmouth College, Brown University, and Princeton University.
The Oxford Handbook of Early Evangelicalism provides the most authoritative and comprehensive overview of the significant figures and religious communities associated with early evangelicalism within the contextual and cultural environment of the long eighteenth century, with essays written by the world's leading experts in the field of eighteenth-century studies.

The Oxford Handbook of Ecclesiology (Oxford Handbooks) by Paul Avis
English | August 28, 2018 | ISBN: 0199645833 | 668 pages | MOBI | 2.73 Mb
The Oxford Handbook of Ecclesiology is a unique scholarly resource for the study of the Christian Church as we find it in the Bible, in history and today. As the scholarly study of how we understand the Christian Church's identity and mission, ecclesiology is at the centre of today's theological research, reflection, and debate. Ecclesiology is the theological driver of the ecumenical movement. The main focus of the intense ecumenical engagement and dialogue of the past half-century has been ecclesiological and this is the area where the most intractable differences remain to be tackled Ecclesiology investigates the Church's manifold self-understanding in relation to a number of areas: the origins, structures, authority, doctrine, ministry, sacraments, unity, diversity, and mission of the Church, including its relation to the state and to society and culture. The sources of ecclesiological reflection are the Bible (interpreted in the light of scholarly research), Church history and the wealth of the Christian theological tradition, together with the information and insights that emerge from other relevant academic disciplines. This Handbook considers the biblical resources, historical development, and contemporary initiatives in ecclesiology. It offers invaluable and comprehensive guide to understanding the Church.

The Oxford Handbook of History and Material Culture (Oxford Handbooks) by Ivan Gaskell, Sarah Anne Carter
English | May 15, 2020 | ISBN: 0199341761 | 680 pages | MOBI | 11 Mb
Most historians rely principally on written sources. Yet there are other traces of the past available to historians: the material things that people have chosen, made, and used. This book examines how material culture can enhance historians' understanding of the past, both worldwide and across time. The successful use of material culture in history depends on treating material things of many kinds not as illustrations, but as primary evidence. Each kind of material thing-and there are many-requires the application of interpretive skills appropriate to it. These skills overlap with those acquired by scholars in disciplines that may abut history but are often relatively unfamiliar to historians, including anthropology, archaeology, and art history. Creative historians can adapt and apply the same skills they honed while studying more traditional text-based documents even as they borrow methods from these fields. They can think through familiar historical problems in new ways. They can also deploy material culture to discover the pasts of constituencies who have left few or no traces in written records. The authors of this volume contribute case studies arranged thematically in six sections that respectively address the relationship of history and material culture to cognition, technology, the symbolic, social distinction, and memory. They range across time and space, from Paleolithic to Punk.

The Oxford Handbook of the Oxford Movement (Oxford Handbooks) by Stewart J. Brown, Peter Nockles, James Pereiro
English | August 1, 2017 | ISBN: 0199580189 | 668 pages | MOBI | 2.44 Mb
The Oxford Handbook of the Oxford Movement reflects the rich and diverse nature of scholarship on the Oxford Movement and provides pointers to further study and new lines of enquiry. Part I considers the origins and historical context of the Oxford Movement. These chapters include studies of the legacy of the seventeenth-century 'Caroline Divines' and of the nature and influence of the eighteenth and early nineteenth-century High Church movement within the Church of England. Part II focuses on the beginnings and early years of the Oxford Movement, paying particular attention to the people, the distinctive Oxford context, and the ecclesiastical controversies that inspired the birth of the Movement and its early intellectual and religious expressions. In Part III the theme shifts from early history of the Oxford Movement to its distinctive theological developments. This section analyses Tractarian views of religious knowledge and the notion of "ethos," the distinctive Tractarian views of tradition and development; and Tractarian ecclesiology, including ideas of the via media and the "branch theory" of the Church.

The years of crisis for the Oxford Movement between 1841 and 1845, including John Henry Newman's departure from the Church of England, are covered in Part IV. Part V then proceeds to a consideration of the broader cultural expressions and influences of the Oxford Movement. Part VI focuses on the world outside England and examines the profound impact of the Oxford Movement on Churches beyond the English heartland, as well as on the formation of a world-wide Anglicanism. In Part VII, the contributors show how the Oxford Movement remained a vital force in the twentieth century, finding expression in the Anglo-Catholic Congresses and in the Prayer Book Controversy of the 1920s within the Church of England. The Handbook draws to a close, in Part VIII, with a set of more generalized reflections on the impact of the Oxford Movement, including chapters on the judgement of the converts to Roman Catholicism over the Movement's loss of its original character, on the spiritual life and efforts of those who remained within the Anglican Church to keep Tractarian ideas alive, on the engagement of the Movement with Liberal Protestantism and Liberal Catholicism, and on the often contentious historiography of the Oxford Movement which continued to be a source of church party division as late as the centennial commemorations of the Movement in 1933. An "Afterword" chapter assesses the continuing influence of the Oxford Movement in the world Anglican Communion today, with special references to some of the conflicts and controversies that have shaken Anglicanism since the 1960s.

The Palgrave Handbook of Climate Resilient Societies by Robert C. Brears
English | EPUB | 2021 | 2283 Pages | ISBN : 3030424618 | 207.2 MB
The effects of climate change are beginning to be felt around the world with rising temperatures, changing precipitation levels, more frequent and severe storms and longer more intensive droughts threatening human life and livelihoods and damaging property and infrastructure. As such, society in all countries - both developing and developed - need to increase their resilience to the impacts of climate change, where resilience is the ability of a system to absorb stresses and adapt in ways that improve the overall sustainability of the system; enabling it to be better prepared for future climate change impacts.

In this context, a climate resilient society is one that is: reflective (learns from experiences); robust (both people and infrastructure can withstand the impacts of extreme conditions); forward-thinking (with plans made to ensure systems function during extreme events); flexible (so systems and plans can change, evolve or adopt alternative strategies); resourceful (to respond quickly to extreme events); inclusive (so all communities including the vulnerable are involved in planning); and integrated (so people, systems, decision-making and investments are mutually supportive of common goals).
The Climate Resilient Societies Major Reference Work includes chapters covering a range of themes that provide readers with an invaluable overview on how various levels of government have attempted to create climate resilient societies. In particular, each chapter, under its respective theme, will address how a government, or series of governments, at various levels in non-OECD and/or OECD countries, have implemented innovative climate resilient policies that seek synergies across strategies, choices and actions, in an attempt to build a climate resilient society. Each chapter will address one specific sub-theme out of the population of themes covered in the Major Reference Work: Water, Energy, Agriculture and Food, Built environment and Infrastructure, Transport, Human health, Society, Disaster, Business and Economy, and Financing Climate Resilience.

The Paradigm Shift from a Linear Economy to a Smart Circular Economy:
The Role of Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Systems, Solutions and Legislations

English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031875494 | 1943 Pages | PDF (True) | 56 MB

The concept of the circular economy has attracted the attention of scholars, researchers, professionals, and policymakers in recent years. The notion is characterised as an economy that intends to keep products, stocks, work in progress and materials at their highest utility and value continually, distinguishing between their technical and biological cycles. It is devised as a continuous positive development cycle that reserves and improves natural resources, optimizes outputs, and minimizes supply chain related risks by overseeing limited stocks and renewable flows of the stocks. Several legislations and policies are being developed to motivate and integrate SDGs and net zero-related approaches in companies, among which the circular economy (CE) is gaining momentum due to its documented impact on the elements of the SDGs and net zero.

Andrew Peyton Thomas, "The People V Harvard Law: How America s Oldest Law School Turned Its Back on Free Speech"
English | 2005 | pages: 229 | ISBN: 1893554988 | PDF | 4,7 mb
In 2002, Kiwi Camara, a Filipino-American at Harvard Law School, joined most of his classmates in posting his class outlines for the previous year on the school web site. Controversy ensued because some found aspects of Camara's shorthand racially insensitive. In response, school administrators proposed a speech code. Harvard Law Graduate Andrew Peyton Thomas uses this controversy to take readers inside the administrative offices, faculty lounges, and classrooms of the nation's oldest and most prestigious law school. He finds freedom of speech and basic constitutional liberties clashing with racial demagogues, Marxist-inspired professors, and a smothering orthodoxy that seeks to silence student dissent. Thomas also ventures brilliantly off campus to reveal how what happens at Harvard Law affects the nation whose most powerful institutions are filled with its graduates.

People attribute a self to themselves. The sciences struggle to define what it is and how it comes about. However, they are certain that we have it and need it. The Post-Mortem Playbook: Analyzing the most important Business Blunders to Build Bulletproof Strategies by Ed Wong
English | March 17, 2025 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0F1SVLQNB | 204 pages | EPUB | 1.17 Mb
In a world where disruption is the norm and uncertainty is the only certainty, understanding the anatomy of business failure-and the pathways to recovery-has never been more critical. This book delves into the complex interplay of risks, missteps, and transformative opportunities that define the modern enterprise landscape. Through a meticulous examination of real-world case studies, emerging trends, and actionable insights, it offers readers a roadmap for navigating the challenges of today while future-proofing their organizations for tomorrow.

At its core, this work is a deep dive into the lessons learned from some of the most iconic corporate failures in history. From Enron's ethical collapse and Kodak's inability to adapt to digital photography to Theranos' fraudulent promises and WeWork's governance breakdowns, these cautionary tales illuminate the vulnerabilities that can undermine even the most promising ventures. Yet, failure is not the end-it is often the beginning of something greater. The book also explores remarkable success stories, such as Apple's revival through innovation, Ford's survival of the 2008 financial crisis, IBM's pivot to cloud computing, Domino's Pizza's reinvention through transparency, and Microsoft's embrace of AI and automation. These narratives demonstrate how visionary leadership, strategic reinvention, and customer-centricity can turn adversity into opportunity.
Beyond historical analysis, this book looks ahead to the forces shaping the future of business. Climate change, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity threats, remote work dynamics, and the tension between globalization and localization are explored as critical trends that will redefine industries in the coming decades. Each trend is examined through the lens of potential risks and rewards, providing readers with practical strategies to stay ahead of the curve.
Structured to guide readers through a journey of discovery and application, this book is divided into three key sections:
Lessons from Failure : A forensic analysis of what went wrong and why, offering actionable takeaways to avoid similar pitfalls.
Transformative Success Stories : Inspiring examples of companies that overcame existential threats and emerged stronger than ever.
Predictions for Future Business Failures : A forward-looking exploration of emerging trends and their implications for resilience and adaptability.
The insights presented are informed by the author's two decades of experience in accounting and finance, bringing a unique perspective to the discussion. With a focus on transparency, accountability, and data-driven decision-making, the author bridges the gap between financial stewardship and strategic leadership, empowering readers to build organizations that are not only resilient but also primed for growth.
Whether you are a seasoned executive steering a multinational corporation, an entrepreneur launching a startup, or a consultant advising businesses on transformation, this book equips you with the tools and perspectives needed to thrive in an era of relentless change. It challenges conventional thinking, encourages bold action, and reinforces the belief that resilience is not about avoiding failure-it's about learning from it, adapting to it, and emerging stronger because of it.
Packed with real-life examples, statistical evidence, and expert analysis, this book is more than just a collection of case studies-it is a call to action. It invites readers to reflect on their own practices, implement proven strategies, and lead with purpose in building enterprises capable of enduring and excelling in the face of uncertainty.
