QPLEX: A Computational Modeling and Analysis Methodology for Stochastic Systems
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031748697 | 369 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 34 MB
This book introduces QPLEX, a powerful computational framework designed for modeling and analyzing nonstationary stochastic systems with large state spaces. The methodology excels at rapidly and accurately generating approximate distributions of system performance over time, offering a robust tool for understanding the dynamics of such systems. QPLEX circumvents the curse of dimensionality by imposing conditional independence, which may be represented via a probabilistic graphical model, and exploiting model dynamics. It is specifically crafted for transient analysis of nonstationary systems, often encountered in practical applications but rarely addressed by traditional techniques. It can work directly with empirical distributions and requires no stability assumptions. Since its output is not noisy, QPLEX is tailor-made for sensitivity analysis and optimization.

Carla Johnson, "Radioactivity, Grade 11 "
English | ISBN: 1681404745 | 2019 | 185 pages | PDF | 3 MB
What if you could challenge your 11th graders to figure out the best response to a partial meltdown at a nuclear reactor in fictional Gammatown, USA? With this volume in the STEM Road Map Curriculum Series, you can!

Radioactivity outlines a journey that will steer your students toward authentic problem solving while grounding them in integrated STEM disciplines. As are the other volumes in the series, this book is designed to meet the growing need to infuse real-world learning into K- 12 classrooms.
This interdisciplinary module uses project- and problem-based learning to help students understand the debate over the safety and efficiency of nuclear power for meeting the country' s energy demands. Teams of students will apply what they learn about the science and history of nuclear energy to convey the views of particular stakeholder groups and propose solutions to the crisis. At the end of the module, students will be able to do the following:
* Explain how radioactive decay, nuclear fission, and nuclear fusion work. * Model nuclear fission, create computer-generated simulations, and perform mathematical computations.
* Calculate the energy yield of an individual nuclear event (decay, fission, and fusion) and use exponential functions to represent chain reactions.
* Identify the safety and environmental concerns involved in using nuclear fission in power plants.
* Explain the history of nuclear energy use and identify key milestones that have influenced society' s perspectives on it.
* Make a presentation about solving the crisis from their stakeholder group' s perspective.

Jeff Schewe, "Real World Image Sharpening With Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Lightroom"
English | 2009 | pages: 361 | ISBN: 0321637550 | PDF | 26,1 mb
Just about every digital image requires sharpening since softness is inevitably introduced during the image digitizing process, and oftentimes with digital photography, images are sharpened badly. This second edition of the definitive book by the late Bruce Fraser teaches readers all they need to know about sharpening, including when to use it, why it's needed, how to use the camera's features, how to recognize an image that needs sharpening, how much to use, what's bad sharpening, and how to fix oversharpening.

Real World Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Lightroom, Second Edition is written by Fraser's friend and renowned photographer Jeff Schewe. It adds essential coverage of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw, since many of the key sharpening functions have migrated from Photoshop to those tools since the first edition of the book was published.
The book shows readers how to: recognize the kind of sharpening that each image needs; become acquainted with the full arsenal of sharpening tools built into Photoshop, Lightroom, and Camera Raw; sharpen part of an image selectively; create a complete sharpening workflow that allows sharpening images optimally for different uses; balance the contradictory demands of sharpening and noise reduction; and more.

Recent Advances in Temporal Databases: Proceedings of the International Workshop on Temporal Databases, Zurich, Switzerland, 17-18 September 1995 By Vittorio Brusoni, Luca Console, Paolo Terenziani, Barbara Pernici (auth.), James Clifford PhD, Alexander Tuzhilin PhD (eds.)
1995 | 360 Pages | ISBN: 3540199454 | PDF | 14 MB
The International Workshop on Temporal Databases held in Zurich, Switzerland, 17-18 September 1995 brought together researchers from academic and industrial institutions with database practitioners interested in keeping up with the state-of-the-art developments in the management of temporal data. A previous workshop in Arlington, Texas in June 1993 focused on the development of an infrastructure that would spur the development of commercial implementations of many of the generally agreed-upon features of temporal database management that have emerged from the temporal database research community over more than a decade of research. This ARP AlNSF-sponsored Arlington workshop saw the formation of the TSQL2 Language Design Committee, which led to the development of the recently completed TSQL2 Language Specification, and also created a "consensus" glossary of temporal database terminology and a test suite of temporal database queries. The Zurich workshop was conceived from the outset to be universal in scope, and international in participation. The Call for Papers sought to evoke the highest quality and most up-to-date temporal database research from around the world. Mindful of the important work accomplished by the previous workshop, the Call also specifically sought out research papers and panels that would comment and build upon the widely publicized results from Arlington. These proceedings contain the papers that were selected for presentation at the International Workshop, on Temporal Databases held in Zurich, Switzerland on 17-18 September 1995.
