Society is the largest organisation of the individuals. Society has its own problems in every field. It is through the study of sociology that the scientific study of society has been possible. The study of society not only has a value in modern complex society, it becomes indispensable. Prior to the emergence of sociology the study of society was carried on in an unscientific manner and society had never been the central concern of any science. It is through the study of sociology that the truly scientific study of the society has been possible. Sociology alone studies social relationships, society itself. Sociology is interested in social relationships not because they are economic or political or religious or legal but because they are at the same time social. Sociology study how the relations combine, how they build up smaller or greater systems and how they respond to changes and changing needs or demands. Therefore the study of sociology is essentially analytical. The science of society assists an individual to understand himself, his capacities, talents and limitations. It enables him to adjust himself to the environment. Knowledge of society, social groups, social institutions, associations, their functions etc. helps us to lead an effective social life.
This book develops a broad understanding of childhood and youth in its social, political and cultural contexts on a degree which also provides a sociological perspective on how society works and changes. The book investigates social life and the way it shapes people's behavior, beliefs and identity. Its subject matter ranges from examination of the face-to-face interactions of daily life to large-scale social institutions, social movements and global processes.
The book also investigates how children shape and are shaped by the social worlds in which they live. It will show the experiences of children in the different contexts and institutions that make up the landscape of contemporary childhood, and to a lesser extent, experiences of the adults charged with their care. Social constructivist approaches, social structural approaches and demographic approaches all are used to interpret the lives of the children. These approaches allow us to know how it is that children actively construct meaning, how they are constrained by social structure and also how our understanding of children's lives can be used to inform public policy and protect children's rights and well-being. Exploring key theories and central ideas, policy and practice, it takes a holistic, contextual approach that values difference and diversity.
