Crypt of the NecroDancer ist ein Roguelike-Dungeon-Crawler, in dem getanzt werden muss. Alles muss sich im Verlies des tanzenden Totenbeschwörer zum Takt bewegen inklusive Cadence, die sich in das Verlies verirrt. Der NecroDancer klaut ihr daraufhin die Seele, die sie natürlich zurückerobern will. Daher kämpft sie sich durch vier Zonen voller Monster und Fallen. Jeder Durchgang ist durch die zufällig generierten Level immer neu.
