A 19-CD box set? Twenty one and a half hours of music? A 72-page book? Artefacts that include a receipt for her first piano? Who said the music industry no longer had money to burn?

For anybody unfamiliar with Sandy Denny’s yearning, evocative songs, her teeteringly vulnerable vocal style and the erratic contours of a career that ended shockingly in a fall downstairs in 1978 when she was 31, this eye-watering project may seem like ludicrous indulgence.

Yet while Denny was far from being a household name and – apart from a comedy French version of Bob Dylan’s Si Tu Dois Partir with Fairport Convention – never had a hit, her cult status has remorselessly risen in a manner comparable to her contemporary Nick Drake, with a swathe of younger artists mentioning her in dispatches and fresh generations seduced by her beguiling melancholia.

This is not even the first box set in her name – the excellent five-CD A Boxful of Treasures came out in 2004. But when you consider compiler Andrew Batt has not only assembled everything she commercially recorded, but 100 previously unreleased tracks, you get a measure of the extraordinary exhaustiveness of the project.

It dates from her earliest recordings with the Strawbs to encompass her classic folk-rock adventures with Fairport Convention and Fotheringay and alternative versions of her momentous first venture into songwriting with what became her signature song, Who Knows Where the Time Goes? (voted the best folk track of all time in a 2007 BBC poll). She was 20 then, and the maturity of her composition is almost as striking as the husky sensuality of a voice that applies gravitas even to the unsuitable throwaway material to which she was occasionally unaccountably drawn.

Nobody would surely miss lame covers like Silver Threads & Golden Needles and Walking the Floor Over You (even in duet form with Richard Thompson), but her home demos in particular reveal a natural emotional depth scarcely replicated by any other British singer. She was a troubled personality with a flawed career but this set overwhelmingly proves that, irrespective of genre, she merits inclusion among the all-time greats.

After a big box with CDs and vinyl was sold direct to fans via their website last year, Toto are reissuing their back catalog as a CD-only box set and making it available via all the usual retailer channels. ‘All In’ is the name of this set and it will feature 13 remastered albums on CD.

The set includes 11 studios albums (Toto, Hydra, Turn Back, IV, Isolation, Fahrenheit, The Seventh One, Kingdom of Desire, Tambu, Mindfields, Toto XX) a previously unreleased Live In Tokyo EP and a compilation ‘The Old Is New‘ featuring 10 tracks (including seven previously unreleased songs). All of the music in the box set was personally remastered by Toto along with Elliot Scheiner. Also included in the box set is a 24-page booklet which includes new essays, and previously unseen photos.

This ‘All In’ 13CD box is released on 24 May 2019, and a few weeks later is some territories. Amazon France seem to have the best deal at the moment.

This time around, as the title suggest, the set focuses on the later period when Roger Waters had quit and David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason were left to continue on their own to produce studio albums and undertake massive world tours.

The recording sessions for Stormwatch stretched from August 1978 to July 1979 as the album’s ecological and maritime themes slowly came into focus on songs like “North Sea Oil” and “Flying Dutchman.” The band recorded several tracks that were left off the album because they didn’t fit the theme. Many of those can be found on the second disc of this set, including “Man Of God,” “Crossword,” “Kelpie” and “The Lyricon Blues.” In addition to those outtakes, the disc also features early versions of the album tracks “Dark Ages” and “Dun Ringill.”

STORMWATCH: 40th ANNIVERSARY FORCE 10 EDITION also includes a previously unreleased recording of Jethro Tull’s concert at Congre?gebouw in the Netherlands on March 16, 1980. The career-spanning performance mixed new Stormwatch tracks (“Something’s On The Move,” “Home” and “Elegy”) with older hits, like “Locomotive Breath,” “Aqualung,” “Thick As A Brick” and “Minstrel In The Gallery.”

STORMWATCH: 40th ANNIVERSARY FORCE 10 EDITION concludes with two audio-only DVDs that feature various mixes of the original album along with the associated recordings featured in this set.

Stormwatch marked the end of an era for Jethro Tull. Due to his deteriorating health, bassist John Glascock missed most of the sessions for the album and only appears on three of its songs (“Flying Dutchman,” “Orion” and “Elegy.”) Tragically, Glascock died shortly after the album was released. The lineup changed even more following the tour to promote the album as Barlow, Evan and Palmer left the group.

However, here, in this exclusive & limited edition Box, I felt compelled to «freeze» some of my personal favorite music moments during the entire creative process ; audio snapshots that neither of us will never ever hear again….as E?N, the App, produces my composition in the form of infinite, ever evolutive music, abundant in variations.
