    Train Simulator 2014/2017 Railworks Addons

BDA 80t Bogie Bolster Wagon Pack

There had been a ten year gap between the last vacuum braked bogie steel carrier design and the first new air braked design in 1972. British Rail was in the slow process of moving away from the use of unfitted and vacuum braked stock, and with the planned number of air braked vehicles being insufficient to replace all of the older stock and meet traffic needs, a solution had to be found.

In October 1975, a prototype emerged from Swindon Works as Design Code BD006B that was a conversion of an unfitted Bogie Bolster D. The wagon had air brake equipment fitted and was mounted on modern Y25C bogies, fitted with clasp brakes. The handbrake was applied by a single lever on each side, in contrast to the 2 levers per side of the original. There were 4 tensioner reels per side to help secure the load with straps, instead of the chains previously used and the gross weight was increased by 5t. When new, it had five fixed wooden bolsters for supporting the load. The vehicle was renumbered as 950000 was coded as BDA under TOPS and was painted in Freight Brown livery.

Two years later, the first production batch began to emerge from Ashford Works with 200 vehicles as Lot 3907 to Design Code BD006A. These were converted in the same fashion as the prototype and retained the low height wooden bolsters of that design, though there were now six of them. They were delivered in Freight Brown livery.

In the summer of 1978, Shildon Works began to produce the 600 wagons that would form Lot 3925 and were given the Design Code BD006C. Initially the only difference was that these wagons were fitted with 6 tensioner reels per side. About half way through the construction run, the bolster design was changed, with a wooden rubbing strip fitted to the metal supports reclaimed from the donor vehicles. This design raised the load by 3 inches and also had an extra pair of locating sockets for the stanchions that supported the load. The livery was changed from Freight Brown to the new Railfreight Flame Red during 1979, near the end of the conversion of this batch.

Vehicles 950801 - 950900 were converted as Lot 3965 in the final few months of 1979 at Shildon. These were to the final Design Code of BD006D, issued to reflect the change to disc brakes and a wheel operated handbrake that was mounted on the bogie. All were delivered in Railfreight Flame Red. A further 350 conversions to this design were completed over the 12 months from March 1980, once again at Shildon, to Lot 3968. It was intended that this lot would number 650 vehicles, but the last 300 were cancelled.

This pack contains examples of each of the main variations, excluding the prototype and the few vehicles that ran on experimental bogies. The wagons are available in Clean and Dirty condition in the appropriate livery or liveries. Empty vehicles feature randomly placed bolster stanchions. There are a selection of loads, ranging from lightweight U-channel to heavy slabs. Loaded vehicles have mass and braking effort tailored to each load type and also factor in the differences in the braking performance between batches. There are 4 random lettering styles available on each variation, though these can be fixed when placed in a scenario. Works plate details are dynamically assigned according to vehicle number. Intelligent tail lamps are used with most options featuring an oil lamp. The vehicles in Dirty Railfreight Red feature a Mk 1 battery flashing lamp, appropriate for the mid-late 1980’s.

The BDA 80t Bogie Bolster Wagon Pack for Train Simulator features:
Freight brown and Railfreight flame red and grey liveries
    Clean and weathered variants
    Randomised decals with overrides
Empty and Loaded versions with suitable physics
Seven different loads - steel billets, steel blooms, pipes, H-beams, steel rods, steel slab and U-channel
    Animated hand brakes
    ‘Intelligent’ tail lamps
Randomised bolster stanchions on empty versions

The pack includes a user manual with further details about the rolling stock and the customising of some of the features when using the wagons in scenarios.

    BDO-60T-Bogie-Bolster

British Railways decided that changes in the steel industry would require the use of more bogie vehicles, and as a consequence built a number of different designs. The wagons, fitted with bolsters to support the load, were mainly grouped according to length (and hence the nominal capacity). The largest were classed as Bogie Bolster D, being 52ft in length with a load capacity of 42 tons.

The first Bogie Bolster D wagons built for BR were 150 vehicles built at Derby in 1949 to an LMS design, which BR described as Diagram 1/470. This featured five fixed bolsters and lashing down rings on the solebar and the wagon was carried on LMS diamond frame bogies. The next 200 vehicles were to an LNER design, appearing in 1950, as Lot 2211 to Diagram 1/472 with the outer 2 bolsters moveable between 2 locations and lashing rings set into the floor of the wagon and were fitted with LNER diamond frame bogies.

1951 saw the appearance of Lot 2237 and with it, the change to GWR style plate bogies which set the appearance of the vast majority of Bolster D wagons with in excess of 1600 unfitted Diagram 1/472 vehicles constructed in 14 lots until 1958. It is these wagons that are represented in this pack.

The wagons in this pack are presented in Clean Unfitted Freight Grey and in a somewhat weathered condition. There is a choice of Empty or Loaded states, with 3 load choices: H-Beams, Pipes and Billets. Randomly applied choices of lettering are applied to the wagons to cover the changes in vehicle coding over the years. Prior to TOPS, the code could be rendered as Bogie Bolster D or D-Bolster, with BDO being the code used after TOPS. The lettering options can be overridden in the scenario editor if required. The empty wagons also feature a random choice of the location of the pins in the four sockets in the top of the bolsters where they may have been left after unloading.

The BDO 60T Unfitted Bogie Bolster Wagon Pack for Train Simulator includes
    Randomised decals with overrides
    Clean and Weathered textures
Empty and Loaded versions with suitable physics
    Billet, pipe and H-beam loads
Randomised bolster pin locations on empty versions.
    Animated hand brakes
The pack includes a user manual with further details about the rolling stock and the customising of some of the features when using the wagons in scenarios. To allow the formation of correctly marshalled trains a British Railways dia. 1/506 unfitted 20T brake van is also bundled with this wagon pack.

    DTG OEBB 4020

Introduced to handle commuter traffic right up until the turn of the century, and beyond, the ÖBB 4020 reigned supreme throughout Austria’s key passenger routes – from the bustling cities to the rural mountain passes. Experience life in the cab of this classic unit as the ÖBB 4020 is ready for Train Simulator service!

By the 1970s, the ÖBB 4030 fleet was in its second decade of service, and with only limited units available, was struggling to cope with the ever-increasing demand that is the Austrian commuter network. A new electric multiple unit was required to take the strain, a unit capable of providing a suitable level of comfort – and faster journey times – for the many passengers that would be travelling on them.

The new units were classified as the ÖBB 4020 and began construction in the mid-1970s; Simmering-Graz-Pauker, BES, ELIN, Siemens and Brown, Boveri & Cie were all responsible for the building of the new units. Austrian Federal Railways began delivery of their 120 new ÖBB 4020 EMUs by 1978, and quickly pressed them into service on 4 major lines throughout the country; the Vienna S-Bahn, the Lower Inn Valley Railway, the Semmeringbahn and the Mittenwaldbahn.

The ÖBB 4020 fleet represented the latest standard for Austria’s railways, improving on previous units in many ways. A top speed of 120 km/h was a welcome introduction, as were the stronger brakes which allowed for faster journey times – even on the steeper routes. The spacious interior could comfortably sit 184 passengers plus stand even more, and this was easily doubled by coupling units together on peak-hour services.

Austrian Federal Railways took in their final ÖBB 4020 in 1987, by which point some of the previous ÖBB 4030’s had already been withdrawn. The reliable build of the 4020s secured their spot as prominent traction for the latter quarter of the 20th Century, and even when the brand new ÖBB 4023 & 4024 EMUs arrived on scene, the 4020s continued to operate on routes such as the Semmeringbahn, and riding on them across the mountains is still possible to this day.

The ÖBB 4020 for Train Simulator includes the 3-car EMU in both ÖBB’s classic blue & white, and the modern red & grey liveries with old and new logo options available – each livery also features clean and weathered variations.

Whether you choose to run your ÖBB 4020 on the new Mittenwaldbahn: Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Innsbruck route (available separately) or the Semmeringbahn - Mürzzuschlag – Gloggnitz route (available separately), you’re sure to have many hours of enjoyment from this classic Electric Multiple Unit.

    DTG Mittenwaldbahn (Steam version)

The railway line has carved its way through the Alpine landscape of western Austria for over a century, providing generations with a vital link from Innsbruck, through the mountains and into Germany’s Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Now you can experience the wonder, beauty, and challenging nature of this line, as the scenic Mittenwaldbahn is now available for Train Simulator!

After the first proposals for a railway line between Seefeld and Innsbruck began to appear in the late 1880s, and following many disputes over financing, approval was granted and construction got underway. Seefeld was to be the original terminus, but this was quickly extended to Mittenwald, and eventually to the already existing station of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. While pushing costs even higher, this extension would allow a seamless connection between Munich and Innsbruck.

The line was opened in July 1912; however, it would not be until April of the following year until the planned electrification was complete and in full operation. Most railway lines weren’t built with the wires in mind, however it was decided to construct the Mittenwaldbahn in such a condition to avoid any future work being required; the landscape was difficult to work in, getting everything done at once avoided major developments in the future, despite the initial cost.

The Mittenwaldbahn proved essential to the locals, and saw a significant rise in tourist traffic with various ski resorts being accessible to many, this was particularly the case for the 1976 Winter Olympics and 1985 World Ski Championships. It was round this time when modernisation was undertaken to accommodate, including re-signalling and station re-builds.

Today, the Austrian section of the line (Innsbruck-Scharnitz) is operated as the S5 line of the Tyrol S-Bahn. ÖBB 4020s would have dominated this service back in their heyday, but the more common traction found is the ÖBB 4024 ‘Talent’ EMUs. DB also provide a regular service to Mittenwald from Munich, with occasional trains extending all the way to Innsbruck. The two operators also provide weekly InterCity Expresses, formed of the ICE-T high speed train and stopping at key stations only. Any freight that traverses the route can often be found behind ÖBB’s modern and powerful 2016 ‘Hercules’ locomotives.

The Mittenwaldbahn for Train Simulator features the 58 km route between Garmisch-Partenkirchen Hbf and Innsbruck Hbf, complete with a variety of Career and Railfan Mode Scenarios allowing you to explore this classic and eye-catching route, all while putting your skills to the test!

Both the DB BR 442 in DB Regio livery, and ÖBB 2016 resplendent in the bold ÖBB red, is ready for your remote passenger and heavy freight needs. A selection of freight cars is included for the ÖBB 2016, and the locomotive itself is in clean, weathered and heavily weathered conditions.

    DTG ÖBB 1044 Loco Add-On

The ÖBB 1044 electric locomotive was built by ELIN, Siemens Mobility, Brown, Boveri & Cie. and Simmering-Graz-Pauker in the mid-1970s as a powerful solution to Austria’s challenging rail network, being able to haul heavy freight or bustling passenger services anywhere from heaving cities to rural mountain passes with ease. With such a wide range of possibility, the ÖBB 1044 quickly became the backbone of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) fleet and would remain so until the turn of the 21st Century.

Such a variety of operations was possible thanks to the powerful 6,710 hp motors, these delivered well over 200 kN of tractive effort to the bogies of the ÖBB 1044 making them the most powerful 4 axle electric locomotives in the world. Following modifications to the intake vents to ensure reliability in the harsher winter months, the ÖBB 1044 was unstoppable in its power and network wide accessibility.

The ÖBB 1044 continued on as the backbone of the Austrian Federal Railways fleet until the year 2000, by which time a batch of Siemens EuroSprinter locomotives were ordered to assist and eventually replace them. Instead of scrapping the locomotives, they were sent to be converted into ÖBB 1144 locomotives, built for regional push-pull passenger services. The heritage behind the classic ÖBB 1044 is not only continued by the 1144s, but also the prototype which was preserved in its original form at the Railway Museum in Strasshof in 2002.

The 1044 for Train Simulator includes liveries with both old and new ÖBB logo designs and Hbbills freight wagons.

    Tirol Austria – Brennerbahn/Unterinntalbahn Route

The Brennerbahn is a major line connecting the Austrian and Italian railways from Innsbruck to Verona, climbing up the Wipptal (German for “Wipp Valley”), passing over the Brenner Pass, descending down the Eisacktal (German for “Eisack Valley”) to Bolzano/Bozen, then further down the Adige Valley to Roverto/Rofreit, and along the section of the Adige Valley, called in Italian the “Vallagarina”, to Verona. This railway line is part of the Line 1 of Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T). It is considered a “fundamental” line by the state railways Ferrovie dello Stato (FS).

The Unterinntalbahn is a two-track, electrified railway line that is one of the major lines of the Austrian railways. It was originally opened as the k.k. Nordtiroler Staatsbahn (Imperial and Royal North Tyrolean State Railway). It begins at the German border near the Austrian city of Kufstein as a continuation of the Rosenheim–Kufstein line and runs in a generally south-westerly direction through Tyrol along the Inn valley to Innsbruck. The line is part of the Line 1 of Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T). The line is owned and operated by Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).

    Desiro – ÖBB 5022/BR 642 v1.1

The Siemens Desiro is a family of diesel or electric multiple unit passenger trains developed by Siemens Mobility, a division of the German Siemens AG conglomerate. The train is mostly used for commuter and regional services and their rapid acceleration makes them suitable for services with short intervals between stations. The design is flexible, and has become common in many European countries.

    Vectron – BR 193 AC – AC/DC v1.2

Around the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century Siemens successfully produced freight and passenger/universal versions of its Eurosprinter locomotive platform; initially made as single voltage machines for European state railways (Austria, Germany), later as multivoltage locomotives for cross border working; this design resulted in numerous orders from both state and private railways, as well as rail leasing companies, primarily in the European Union area.

Siemens identified the potential for further growth in the market, particularly in trans-Alpine freight (Northern Europe to Italy), railfreight from northern European ports into Europe and from Baltic ports into Russia, as well as the potential for growth in newer members of the European Union (Poland, Hungary etc.).

Regioswinger – BR 612 inkl. Soundmod

The BR 612 is a tilting diesel multiple unit of DB. The vehicles are primarily used as a regional express and InterRegio Express. The class is also known as RegioSwingers. They were developed to replace the problematic DB Class 611. The sets worked fine between 1998 and 2004 until cracks were detected in a number of wheel sets and so the tilting system was disabled and curves on lines had to have reduced speed limits, which affected the timetables and connections. From 2005 the trains had the wheel sets replaced and the tilting system was back up and running. The maximum tilt is 8°.

    Bombardier Talent – BR 643

The Talent is an articulated railcar with Jacobs bogies. Partially as a result of this, the interior of an entire unit is essentially a single, long cabin; it is possible to see or walk from end to end without opening doors or passing through narrower gangways. The sharing of bogies also means that a Talent unit cannot be easily disassembled or rearranged without the assistance of a railway yard. In those variants whose floor is 590 mm (23.2 in) above the rails, this means that the articulation floor is raised, but with ramp access, since it needs to be higher than the wheel diameter, above rail level. In the variants with 800 and 960 mm (31.5 and 37.8 in) floor height, the floor is flat from the first door to the last. The endsections have a raised floor in all variants, because the traction equipment installed underneath requires more space than unpowered bogies.

After a prototype was presented in 1994, the first Talents entered service in 1996. They are used by mainline railways in Germany, Austria and Norway. More than 260 are in service worldwide.

In a more unusual use, three diesel Talents identical to Deutsche Bahn’s class 643 once formed the fleet for Ottawa’s O-Train Trillium Line, a diesel light rail transit line running entirely within the City of Ottawa. The Trillium Line shares a lightly used freight railway line. As the Talent is not certified for concurrent shared-track operation with freight trains in North America, freight traffic is not permitted on the Trillium Line’s route while passenger services are running. Although it is still legally classified as a main-line railway, Transport Canada allow the O-Train Trillium Line to use One-Person Train Operation, with fares collected through a proof-of-payment system. In March 2015, all three Talent units were replaced by Alstom Coradia LINT diesel units and presumably retired.

    Vectron – DB BR 193 DC v.1.1.1

The design incorporates elements from previous Siemens locomotives – the train control package and traction control system are from the ES64F4 and ES64U4 Eurosprinter models respectively, whilst traction system is derived from the ER20 EuroRunner. The cab and replaceable front end (buffer-bar) derives from the latest Eurosprinter model i.e. locomotives such as the Belgian SNCB Class 18 or Portuguese CP Class 4700.

    Hercules – ÖBB 2016 v1.3

The Eurorunner family of locomotives are a series of medium- to high-power diesel-electric locomotives built by Siemens for the European market. Introduced from 2002 onwards, they share design characteristics with the successful Eurosprinter range of electric locomotives, also built by Siemens.

The locomotive is designed to be made of as few parts as possible, and is of modular construction, with separate components (engine, electronics etc.) kept in separately fabricated units and are designed to be easily replaceable.

Marketing by Siemens has heavily emphasised the locomotive’s energy-saving characteristics, as well as the technology used to reduce particulate emissions.

The locomotives have a supercharged 16-cylinder diesel engine of the MTU 4000 series developing 2,000 kW of power which drive a three-phase brushless alternator. At idle 8 of the 16 cylinders can be turned off, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The three-phase electrical supply is rectified to DC to supply a pulse width modulator, which in turn generates a three-phase electrical supply to the traction motors (which are of the induction type) – the four traction motors are connected in parallel.

Electrical taps from the main DC power supply also provide power to other electronically controlled power supplies, including those that power the cooling fans (also known as ‘blowers’) at 440 V 3-phase 60 Hz. The power supply for passenger operations (coach heating, lighting etc.) is optional and is located separately under the main frame whereas the rest of the electronic equipment is mounted in the body of the vehicle.

Saadkms Freight Wagons & Bcmz Carriages 1.2

Saadkms are unique low-floor freight wagons for vehicle transportation which are in service in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia and several other European countries.

Designed especially for Train simulator, they are modelled in great detail and loaded with a selection of road trucks. The wagons have special bogies which means that the middle wagon (Saadkms M) cannot be coupled with other wagons except on the end wagon (Saadkms E1 or Saadkms E2).

The Saadkms E1 and Saadkms E2 are very similar, except that they display a different direction of the road truck mounted on it. (In the Scenario Editor you see an arrow which indicates which direction the trucks are facing.)

Also included is the Bcmz passenger carriage which can be included in the rake along with the Saadkms to transport the truck drivers to their destination along with their vehicles.

This package includes four custom scenarios and two Free Rooms.

    Schienenbus – ÖBB 5081

A railbus is a very lightweight type passenger rail vehicle (typically non-articulated or rigid frame) that shares many aspects of its construction with a bus, usually having a bus, or modified bus, body and having four wheels on a fixed base, instead of on bogies. These railbuses design developed in the 1930s, have evolved into larger dimensions, performance and characteristics similar in appearance to a light railcar, and today the terms railcar and railbus are often used interchangeably.

Railbuses designed for use specifically on little-used railway lines were commonly employed in countries such as Austria, Germany, Italy, France, United Kingdom and Sweden. Today railbuses are being replaced by modern light DMU railcar designs. The diesel railcar series ÖBB 5081 is the Austrian version of the railbus (Schienenbus).

    Spielfeld-Strass – Bad Radkersburg Route

This diesel route is 31.1 km long and was created in 1885. The route has nine stations and the first station is Spielfeld Strass, which is the border between Austria and Slovenia. The route is running mostly between fields and it ends in Bad Radkersburg. In the past the line in Bad Radgersburg also continued to Slovenia, but the bridge over the river Mura was demolished. This route doesn’t have light signals, because it uses the ZLB system (Zugleitbetrieb), which means that it uses signs instead of light signals. The light signals are only located on the Spielfeld Strass station. The highest driving speed on the line is 80 km/h. All the new assets for this route are created by us and so there is no need to have any other asset packs installed except for the scenarios.

    Südbahn Route v.1.2

The Southern Railway (Südbahn) is a railroad in Austria that runs from Vienna to Graz and to the border with Slovenia at Spielfeld via Semmering and Bruck an der Mur. It was originally built by the Austrian Southern Railway company and ran to Ljubljana and Trieste, the main seaport of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The two-track, electrified section that runs through the current territory of Austria is owned and operated by Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and is one of the major lines of the country. This Austria route Südbahn is created from Wiener Neustandt to Bruck an der Mur, which has a total length of 110 km.

    Vectron – BR 193 AC/DC Advance v1.1

Semmeringbahn - Mürzzuschlag to Gloggnitz Route

The picture postcard scenery of the Austrian Alps dominate the stunning new Semmeringbahn: Mürzzuschlag to Gloggnitz route for Train Simulator.

Built by more than 20,000 worked between 1848 and 1854, the 41km (25 mile) Semmeringbahn (Semmering Railway) was the first standard gauge mountain railway ever constructed and is considered the first ‘true’ mountain railway, due to its immense change in altitude and challenging terrain it traverses throughout the route.

Connecting the Austrian towns of Mürzzuschlag and Gloggnitz in the east of the country, the Semmeringbahn features some of the most stunning railway scenery seen anywhere in the world – two-storey high viaducts, more than 100 stone bridges, 16 tunnels and 11 iron bridges are prominent throughout the route. The line itself sees a 457m altitude difference in its 41km in length, and 60% of the track is on a 2-2.5% (around 1:40) gradient, with as much as 16% featuring very tight radius curves at only 190m.

From Gloggnitz in the east, the line passes through a number of small hamlets high in the mountainous Alps to Payerbach-Reichenau, where local passenger services from Vienna terminate. It is here that one of the Alps’ major ski resorts is located, as well as a heritage railway running in the mountains. Heading southwards, the line crosses the stunning Schwarza Viaduct before Küb and Klamm-Schottwein, where the landscape is most famous for the expansive S6 motorway viaduct.

Between Klamm-Schottwein and Breitenstein, trains pass through probably the most famous part of the route, The Viaduct – a spectacular open-sided tunnel that provides a photographer’s dream setting. From Semmering (the highest point on the route), the line heads downhill towards Mürzzuschlag, where large freight yards and a locomotive maintenance and servicing yard dominate.

At the time of opening, the incredible grades and tight curves resulted in the need for new locomotives that could more easily handle the task. Thus, a competition was held to find traction that was able to traverse the grades and curves while maintaining a minimum speed of 11.5km/h (7mph).

Eventually, the railway settled for the Engerth locomotive, a unique articulated tender locomotive that had a top speed of 19km/h (11mph) up the steepest gradients thanks to the weight of the fuel and water being spread across all the axles, providing more traction.

The increased accessibility to the mountains thanks to the railway saw a number of purpose-built Alpine resorts, with parts of the railway becoming known for their summer orientated architecture such as hotels and villas. It also lead to the construction of residential areas, creating a new form of landscape not usually seen on mountainous terrain.

Today, the line is owned and operated by the Austrian Federal Railways some 160 years after its construction and plays a key role in connecting Vienna and Graz as part of the ÖBB Southern Railway. It was also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998.

However, despite the fantastic scenery, towering bridges, challenging grades and rich history, a new 27.3km (16 mile) tunnel is being constructed under the mountains to bypass the Semmeringbahn, and is expected to open in 2024.

Included with this primarily freight route is a Class 1116 in ÖBB Livery, Habbins bogie van wagons, Zags bogie tanker wagons, SGGRSS container wagons, TDRRS two-axle hopper wagons and Bmz Eurofima coaches.
